This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from MiniArt captures the Iraqi modernization of the Soviet T-55 tank, built on a Polish-made hull. The model catches the eye with the characteristic blocks of add-on spaced armor on the turret and the front of the vehicle. Besides the plastic parts the package also contains photo-etched metal for fine detail and a decal sheet with marking schemes.
The T-55 Al Faw was an Iraqi attempt to raise the resistance of the older T-55 tank against anti-tank weapons. Massive spaced armor blocks were fitted to the turret and the nose, which gave the tank an unmistakable angular silhouette. The Iraqis called the vehicle Al Faw, while coalition soldiers nicknamed it Enigma because of its unknown construction. It was deployed in the conflicts in the Middle East in the 1980s and the early 1990s. The real subject of this kit has a hull derived from the licensed Polish production of the T-55.
On armored vehicles it pays to finish the running gear and the internal detail before you close the hull and the turret up. Glue the plastic with a liquid model cement and the etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. After spraying a primer and airbrushing the base color, the armor blocks will stand out with washes into the corners and dry brushing on the edges. Dust and mud effects from pigments on the running gear give the vehicle an authentic desert look.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
