Kontakt-1 is Soviet first generation reactive armor, that is a system of flat containers with an explosive insert placed on the outside of the turret and hull of a tank. The principle is simple and effective: when a shaped charge hits, the insert detonates, throws the cover plate against the incoming jet and markedly reduces its penetration. Tanks covered with these containers took on a typical angular silhouette in the 1980s, thanks to which late machines are told apart at a glance from the smooth earlier versions.
It is a set of reactive armor containers in 1:35 scale for completing a model of an armored vehicle. The number of pieces, their placement and the kit they are meant for are given in the manufacturer's instructions. The placement is not arbitrary; each type of vehicle has its own scheme, so it pays to follow the instructions and photographs of the real thing.
Cut away the excess material and the traces of manufacture with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and the manufacturer's directions, and wash and degrease the parts before gluing and painting. Glue the containers on once the vehicle is assembled, but ideally before painting, so that the whole gets a uniform shade. It works well to lay their position out dry first, because a row glued on crooked shows on a finished model more than anything else. The edges of the containers were rubbed in service, so they deserve a lighter touch and traces of dust.
It is an add-on set for a build. Paints, glue and thinners are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
