An injection-molded plastic kit of the British M10 Achilles tank destroyer in 1:35 scale from Italeri. The package holds plastic parts, tracks and a decal sheet. The model captures the characteristic open turret with the long barrel of the British 17-pounder (17pdr) anti-tank gun.
The M10 Achilles was a British tank destroyer that came about by rearming the American M10 self-propelled gun, delivered under Lend-Lease, with the more capable British 17-pounder anti-tank gun. That gun could threaten most German tanks, and it was therefore feared by German crews. The Achilles first went into action in Normandy, then served in Italy and with a number of Allied anti-tank units. It kept the open turret of the American M10, so the crew had a good view but were vulnerable to fire from above.
First assemble the running gear and the interior of the open turret and paint them, and only then finish the hull. Paint and weather the tracks before fitting them. For painting, use British olive drab shades; bring out the long barrel and the turret with a wash and apply mud and dust pigments to the running gear and the lower areas. An open turret rewards careful work on the inner space.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
