An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:35 scale from the manufacturer AFV Club. The real subject is the M1296 Stryker ICV-Dragoon in its form after the E.S.A. MWO modernization. According to the manufacturer the package contains photo-etched parts, clear parts for the periscopes and the optics, decals with US Army markings and optional positions of the hatches and the weapon station. New molds cover the turret with the cannon, the rear stowage basket, the front spare wheel holder and the jerrycan rack.
The Stryker is an American wheeled armored personnel carrier with 8x8 drive — fast, road-going, air-transportable and built for rapid moves by brigade combat teams. The basic ICV (Infantry Carrier Vehicle) version carries only a weapon station with a machine gun. The ICV-D version, that is, the Dragoon, additionally received a remotely operated turret with a 30mm automatic cannon — that is a fundamental difference, both visual and in combat, from the basic carrier, because thanks to it the vehicle can fight lightly armored targets and not merely defend itself. The first vehicles were delivered in December 2017.
The abbreviation E.S.A. stands for Enhanced Situational Awareness, that is, improved perception of the situation around the vehicle; MWO is a Modification Work Order — a formal army order to carry out a modernization on vehicles already delivered. The E.S.A. package brings better sensors and optics, added communication equipment and the related changes to the external fittings and the stowage of cargo.
A wheeled chassis allows a more comfortable build than tracked hardware, but the details stand out all the more for it — glue the clear periscopes in only after painting and mask them. Apply a primer before painting and spray the base shade with an airbrush. Weather modern American hardware sparingly: a fine wash into the engraved lines, with dust and mud concentrated on the wheels, the wheel arches and the lower edges of the hull. The front tires can be turned for a livelier pose on a diorama.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
