An injection-molded plastic kit of the American M26 armored recovery and tractor vehicle in 1:35 scale from Tamiya. It is a large model with rich use of metal and additional parts: photo-etch, chains, cables, clear parts for the lights and rubber tires with a real tread pattern. Thanks to slide-mold technology the armored cab is made as one detailed part, and the window armor can be built open or closed. Several crew figures are usually included as well. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The M26 was an American heavy armored tractor of the Second World War which, together with its trailer, made up a rig nicknamed the Dragon Wagon. It served for recovering and hauling damaged or knocked-out tanks off the battlefield; the recovery version was equipped with a winch and supporting gear. The vehicle had an armored cab protecting the crew and a powerful engine for hauling heavy loads. It first went into action on the Italian front in 1943 and later saw wide use during the Allied advance after the Normandy landings.
As with any armored vehicle, it pays to assemble and paint the running gear and the interior of the cab before the hull is closed up. Glue the metal photo-etch and the chains with super glue. After the base coat (ideally with an airbrush over a primer) use washes to bring out the rivets and the recesses, and pigments for mud and dust effects on the chassis and the tires; on a recovery vehicle heavy soiling looks very convincing. Leave the chromed and clear parts for the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
