A resin gun barrel for the Italian C1 Ariete tank in 1:35 scale replaces the plastic part of the base kit and rids the barrel of its lengthwise seam.
Responsibility details are not available.
A one-piece resin casting that takes over from the plastic barrel in a kit of the Italian main battle tank. The cast part holds a circular section along its whole length, whereas a split molded barrel calls for lengthy cleaning up of the seam and after sanding it often loses the crispness of the leading edges. This is not a kit of the tank but a replacement part for one.
The development was led by the Italian consortium of Iveco Fiat and OTO Melara and the machine entered service in the middle of the 1990s. It carries a 120 mm smoothbore gun, the crew is four men and it is powered by a turbocharged twelve-cylinder diesel. It was the first postwar Italian tank of domestic design, with which the country meant to replace its aging machines of foreign origin. It had its combat test during the Italian presence in southern Iraq, where the vehicles ran with additional protection and a generous load on the turret.
Cut the casting gate off with a saw as far as possible from the muzzle and level the mating surface on sandpaper laid on glass. Before gluing, wash the part in warm water with detergent so that the release agent from the mold disappears. Cyanoacrylate holds the joint, as ordinary modeling glue does not work on resin. Any warping is cured by a short bath in hot water and cooling in a straightened position, which you need only hold between two rulers. Then comes spray primer, and only over that the topcoat.
