Replacement front and rear fenders with the rear stowage bins whose lids are in the open state, for a model of the Merkava Mk.3 tank in 1:35 scale. The set is intended for the HobbyBoss kit.

The real subject

The Merkava is an Israeli main battle tank with the power unit placed at the front and the crew behind it. At the rear and along the sides the vehicle carries bins and baskets for equipment, because the crew takes supplies for several days with it. Open lids give the model a story: they show that someone is using the machine right now, and they also allow what is inside to be shown.

What the set contains

Front and rear fenders and the rear stowage bins with the lids swung open, as a replacement for the parts from the kit. The extent of the set and the number of parts are given by the maker in the instructions. A version with damaged fenders is sold separately; this set is in the undamaged form.

Building and painting tips

• Remove the original parts from the kit only after a dry test, so that you know where the new pieces will seat.
• These parts are not polystyrene, so bond the joints with super glue.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down.
• Wash and degrease them before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly on the smooth surface.
• A small load or a rolled-up tarpaulin suits the open bins, so that the space does not look empty.
