About product

Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf. H Vomag, early production June 1943 - a 1:35 MiniArt kit

A plastic kit of the German Pz.Kpfw.IV medium tank in the Ausf. H version in 1:35 from the manufacturer MiniArt. The package is marked as the early production run of June 1943 from the Vomag plant, and that is a significant detail for a modeler: the individual production batches differed in details of the hull, the turret and the auxiliary equipment, so it is the run designation that determines how the finished model should look. MiniArt divides its newer molds into a large number of small parts, so expect a longer and more careful build than with simpler kits.

The real subject

The Pz.Kpfw.IV was a German medium tank of the Second World War, built throughout the conflict and continually modified. The Ausf. H version of 1943 had thicker frontal hull armor and modified running machinery. In service it commonly carried add-on armor skirts on the sides of the hull and on the turret, known as Schürzen, which were meant to reduce the effect of anti-tank rifles and shaped-charge ammunition. The main armament was the 7.5 cm KwK 40 gun with a long barrel. Tanks of this version were built by several plants in parallel, Vomag among them, and that is where the small differences in equipment between the individual runs come from.

Building and painting tips

Finish the running gear and everything that is meant to be visible inside the hull before you close the hull up. Cut the running gear links and the fine parts off with a sharp knife and level the cut surfaces carefully, otherwise small clearances add up and the running gear goes out of line. Apply the paint in thin coats so that the texture of the moldings stays visible. For weathering, a dark wash into the recesses, careful dry-brushing of the edges and pigments for mud and dust effects on the running gear and the lower part of the hull all work well. Paint the side skirts separately and fit them only at the end of the build.

Who the model is for

  • Modelers with experience of intricate kits
  • Collectors of German equipment in 1:35
  • Diorama builders who need a particular production run
  • Anyone interested in the differences between the individual Pz.Kpfw.IV versions

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It refers to the plant that built that run of tanks. The individual plants and runs differed in detail, which is why the manufacturer gives the information in the name itself.

The name of the package does not state an interior variant. MiniArt usually lists the variants with an interior as separate items under a different name.

Rather not. The kit is intricate and contains a lot of small parts, so it calls for patience and a steady hand.

The number of parts and the contents of the package are stated by the manufacturer on the packaging and in the instructions.
