About product

Pz.Kpfw.IV Ausf.J Nibelungenwerk late production (January–February 1945) — Interior Kit 1:35 (MiniArt)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the German medium tank Panzer IV Ausf.J from the late production of the Nibelungenwerk plant (January to February 1945) in 1:35 scale from MiniArt. The Interior Kit designation means that the model contains the complete internal equipment — the engine compartment with the engine, the transmission, the steering, a fully equipped fighting compartment and the driver's and radio operator's positions. The package further includes photo-etched parts, clear plastic parts and richly detailed moldings. Given the number of internal parts, this is a demanding build for advanced modelers.

The real subject

The Panzer IV was the most widespread German medium tank of the Second World War and the only one that stayed in series production throughout the conflict. The Ausf.J was its last production variant: to simplify it and save resources, the electric turret traverse was dropped and replaced by a hand drive, and the fuel capacity was increased for greater range. Tanks from the late production of the Nibelungenwerk plant carry a range of simplified manufacturing features typical of the end of the war. The main armament was the long 7.5 cm gun, which kept its combat value even in 1945.

Building and painting tips

On a model with a full interior work from the inside out: first assemble and paint the engine, the transmission, the floor of the fighting compartment and the ammunition, and only then close up the hull and the turret — some of the hatches can be left open so that the interior shows. Finish and weather the running gear and the tracks before you fit the fenders. Glue the plastic with thin modeling cement and use an airbrush and a primer for painting. Bring out the interior with a dark wash into the recesses and finish the exterior with filters, washes and pigments for the mud and dust effects that suit tanks of the end of the war.

Who the model is for

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

  • Advanced modelers interested in a complete tank interior
  • Collectors of German armor of the Second World War
  • Diorama enthusiasts who want a model with open hatches and a visible interior

FAQ

It means that the kit contains the complete internal equipment of the tank — the engine, the transmission, the steering and a fully equipped fighting compartment. You can therefore build the model with open hatches and a visible interior.

Rather not. Because of the large number of internal parts and the photo-etch it is a demanding build, better left to more advanced modelers.

It was the last production variant of the Panzer IV. To simplify manufacture the electric turret traverse was dropped and replaced by a hand drive, and the fuel supply was increased for greater range.
