An injection-molded plastic kit of the German light four-wheeled reconnaissance armored car Sd.Kfz.222 in 1:35 scale from the Japanese company Tamiya. The Afrika-Korps form captures the vehicle as deployed in the North African theater. The box contains photo-etched parts for the wire mesh covers of the open turret, a turned metal barrel for the 20mm gun, crew figures and several marking options for North African units.
The Sd.Kfz.222 was one of the most widespread German armored cars of the Second World War. This light vehicle with four-wheel drive and a welded body with strongly sloped armor stood out for its cross-country mobility, which made it an excellent reconnaissance asset. The open turret with hinged mesh covers protected the three-man crew from grenades and splinters. The main armament was a 20mm quick-firing gun complemented by a coaxial 7.92mm machine gun. In North Africa these vehicles served with the reconnaissance units of the German Afrikakorps.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid modeling cement for styrene. On this vehicle it pays to assemble and paint the running gear and to fit the interior of the open body before you close the build up. Apply the base coat best with an airbrush over a primer, then complete the desert camouflage with shades and decals. For a convincing weathered look, use washes in the recesses and pigments for the dust and mud effects typical of the African setting. The photo-etched mesh covers and the turned barrel give the model fine detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
