Work on a tank took up substantially more of a crew's time than combat did. Tightening tracks, refueling, cleaning the barrel and maintaining the engine all happened right in the field, between moves, and it is exactly such scenes that turn a displayed model into a picture from life. The set captures a Soviet tank crew at work, that is figures in working poses rather than standing to attention.
Figures of Soviet tankers in 1:35 scale, injection-molded in polystyrene on sprues. They are assembled like any plastic model: cut the parts off with a sharp blade, clean up the joints at the shoulders, the waist and where the head fits, and fill and sand them before painting. The scale matches the usual armored vehicle kits, so the figures can be placed with practically any Soviet tank.
The working clothing of tank crews is painted in muted tones, which benefit from a fine wash in the folds and a dry brush over the edges. On the hands, knees and elbows it pays to add traces of oil and dust, because the whole set tells a story of work on the machine. Glue the figures to a base only after painting and arrange them so that their gaze and hands point toward what they are working on, otherwise the scene looks stiff.
For modelers building a diorama around a tank and for those who want to give a finished model a sense of scale with a single well-placed figure. The tank, the paints and the glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
