The T-34/85 is the late form of the Soviet T-34 medium tank. Compared with the earlier machines it received a larger three-man turret and an 85 mm gun, which was a fundamental change: the commander no longer had to aim and could watch the surroundings and direct the fighting. The sloped armor remained, as did the wide tracks with their good performance over soft ground and the diesel V12 engine.
The T-34/85 was built at several factories at the same time, and the individual plants differed in details: in the design of the turret, in the shape of the hatches, in the fittings and in small external equipment. The number 174 therefore does not identify only the maker but the particular form of the machine that the model captures. The year 1944 then marks the production standard of that period, not the date of a particular deployment.
In 1:35 scale the length of the model with the gun forward comes out at around 23 cm. The running gear gives the most work: dry-fit the mating surfaces of the wheels and the tracks so that the assembly sits straight and all the wheels touch the base. Wash and degrease the parts before painting. A single-color finish lives on shading, so lighten the base coat in the middle of the large areas and keep the transitions soft. Apply dust and mud at the very end and from the bottom up.
