About product

The U.S. Army G7107 4x4 1.5 t cargo truck in 1:35 scale from MiniArt

The kit captures the American army cargo truck G7107 with drive on all four wheels and a payload of 1.5 tons, in 1:35 scale. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.

The real subject

The designation G7107 belonged to the group of American cargo trucks with all-wheel drive and a payload of one and a half tons, built in great numbers during the Second World War. They were second-line working vehicles: they carried ammunition, materiel and men, towed light trailers and served as the basis for a range of bodies. The cab was an enclosed sheet one, the cargo bed wooden or metal according to the production batch, and the steering and the chassis were built for simple maintenance in field conditions. A considerable part of production was delivered to the Allies, so the same type turns up in many different markings and camouflages.

Building and painting tips

With cargo trucks the order of the work is what decides. Finish and paint the frame, the transmission and the axles before you set the cab and the bed on them — afterward you will not reach them. Work the cab interior and the instrument panel separately and put them in only once they are dry. The bed is a rewarding feature: wood can be built up with a base color, thin glazes and fine highlighting of the grain. Leave the wheel suspension loose until you stand the model on a base, so that all four wheels sit down. Keep the mud and dust effects to the lower half of the vehicle and to the fenders; above, fine dust is enough, otherwise the model loses legibility.

Who the model is for

  • Builders of dioramas where a supply and rear-area vehicle is needed.
  • Collectors of American Second World War vehicles in 1:35 scale.
  • Modelers who like vehicles with a well worked frame and chassis.
  • Anyone interested in vehicles delivered to the Allies during the war.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

The extent of the detailing is not stated here. With cargo trucks it pays to paint the frame and the axles before fitting the cab.

The type was built during the war with a wooden and with a metal bed according to the production batch.

The truck appeared during the war with the American army and with Allied users alike.

A cargo truck has more chassis parts than a simple tank and calls for keeping to the order of the work. With the experience of one or two kits it is manageable.
