In the first years of the war the Soviet KV series of heavy tanks were among the most heavily armored machines on the Eastern Front. Further vehicles came out of the same design family: the KV-85 tank received a turret with an 85 mm gun, and the SU-152 heavy self-propelled gun carried a large-caliber weapon in a fixed superstructure. What all these machines share is the same running gear with wheels of a smaller diameter, set low and along the whole length of the side.
The package holds replacement road wheels in 1:35 scale for the KV series vehicles named and for the SU-152. On a finished model the wheels are visible along the whole length of the hull, so the crispness of the shape of the disc and the hub shows on them more than on any other part of the running gear. How many pieces the set contains and how they are fitted is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Fit the wheels dry first and check whether they sit on the stubs of your kit's running gear; the seating often needs slight adjustment. Cut any excess material away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder back, and choose the glue according to the material of the parts. Wash and degrease the wheels before painting. Paint them off the model, while they are accessible from every side, and only then fit them and stretch the tracks on. On heavy vehicles the metal is quickly worn bare on the running surfaces, whereas the bottom of the sides stays clogged with dust and mud, so it is precisely the wheels that will take heavier dirtying than the rest of the hull.
The set suits modelers who want to swap the wheels from a kit on heavy Soviet vehicles for more crisply shaped ones, or who need to replace a piece damaged during the build. It is an accessory to a kit; the model itself, paints and glue are not in the package, unless stated otherwise.
