Late in the war the M4 Sherman medium tank received a new suspension designated HVSS, that is, a suspension with horizontally mounted coil springs and with paired road wheels. Wider tracks than on the older VVSS suspension came with it. A wider track meant less ground pressure, and therefore better mobility in mud and snow, and thanks to it late Shermans look markedly different from the machines of the first half of the war. The type of track the set covers is given in the name.
This is a set of workable tracks in 1:35 scale. A workable track is made up of individual links, which stay hinged once assembled, so the finished track can be laid over the model the way a real track lies on the wheels. Compared with a track made in one piece it is extra work, but the result is noticeably more faithful, especially where the track is visible from above. The number of links and the exact assembly procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the links with a sharp blade, sand the production marks down and dry-fit them before joining to see how they fit together. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts and the manufacturer's instructions, and use it sparingly at the joints, otherwise the track will stiffen and you will not be able to bend it again. Tracks are best painted off the model: prime the whole track first and only then add the shades of rust, dust and the polished traces on the running surfaces. Fit them only onto a finished and painted running gear.
This is an accessory set for building a model. Paints, glue and thinners are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
