Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the celebrated Japanese school ship Kaiwo Maru in 1:350 scale. The set includes hull parts, the deck superstructure, masts and yards; the package tends to be supplemented with pre-formed sails and thread for the rigging, so the finished result is a striking model of a fully rigged four-masted barque. The kit is among the more demanding because of the amount of rigging, but the result makes an impressive display piece.
Kaiwo Maru is a four-masted barque built to train Japanese naval cadets. Together with her sister ship Nippon Maru she served for decades as a floating school, and on voyages under full sail she earned a nickname for her elegance. The combination of classic square rig and a modern hull makes her one of the most beautiful surviving sailing ships.
Build and paint the hull and the superstructure in sections, and only then fit the masts. The yards and the rigging are best tensioned with strong thread or rigging line and fixed with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Shape the pre-formed sails lightly before fitting them and paint them matte. A firm stand is recommended, and the ship should be fully painted before the rigging goes on.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
