The Messerschmitt Bf 109G-6 was among the most numerously built versions of the German single-engine fighter of the Second World War. It was powered by the liquid-cooled DB 605 twelve-cylinder V engine. The cockpit of the Bf 109 was famously tight and the instrument panel sits literally within the pilot's reach, so even on a model in 1:48 scale more is visible under a slid-back canopy than you would expect.
The set brings colored three-dimensional elements for the cockpit interior. It is not flat printing: the elements have a thickness and structure of their own, so once applied the instrument panel and the side walls read with depth and the dials have sharp markings. The extent of the set and the placement of the individual elements are given in the instructions of the manufacturer.
The elements of the QD range are printed on a backing decal paper and have no adhesive layer of their own. Cut the piece from the sheet, leave it in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and then slide it off the paper into place. Leave the areas under the elements smooth, painted and degreased and go over them with a gloss clear coat, because it is precisely on gloss that an element holds reliably; Future or Klear will do, or Tamiya X-22. On a busy surface a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Slide the element on from one edge and press it down with a soft tool, so that no air stays under it. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution; the chemistry attacks the printed resin.
The set suits modelers who want the cockpit finished quickly and legibly, and those who do not trust themselves to paint tiny dials with a brush. It pays off above all on a model with the canopy slid back. The package contains only the elements of the set; the model, the paints and the glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
