Photo-etched steel seat belts for a model of the Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet in 1:48 scale. They replace the flatly suggested belts from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The ejection seat of a modern fighter carries a dense arrangement of straps, buckles and fittings, and with the canopy open practically all of it is visible. A kit can render that tangle only as a shallow relief on the shell of the seat, because otherwise the part could not be pulled from the mold. A photo-etched belt, by contrast, has the real thickness of a paper-thin foil, can be folded over an edge and left to drape over the rim, so the seat stops looking like a single cast lump.
The designation in the name gives the material of the etching, that is, steel. Compared with softer metals it is springier and holds its shape after bending: a belt can be reshaped, straightened and bent again without tearing at the narrow points. That property is most useful on belts, because you work with them for a long time and in a small space before they sit exactly the way they should.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, never with scissors; twisting deforms the etching and it is then hard to straighten. Sand the remains of the tabs with a fine file. Form the bends over a rounded edge or with a round tool so that the sag looks natural, as a sharp crease reads as hard in scale. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue applied with the tip of a toothpick; one minute drop per part is enough. If you are going to paint the belts, degrease the surface first and use a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will chip off when handled. The position and the order of assembly are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The model kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
