Five schemes for the Fieseler Fi 156C-3 Storch and the French licensed MS 500 in 1:48, including a tropical, a Romanian and a captured American machine.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Storch became famous for what other aircraft could not do: it took off from a stretch shorter than sixty meters and landed almost on the spot. That was made possible by ingenious wing devices with fixed slats along the whole span and large flaps, together with the long travel of the landing gear, which absorbed even a hard touchdown on a plowed field.
It was used for liaison, for spotting artillery fire, for medical evacuation and for carrying staff officers to the front. After the war the French built it under license as the MS 500, and in their colors it flew well into the 1950s.
The sheet carries five marking options from various theaters:
What is interesting is how varied the service history of the individual machines is. The same airframe served a bomber unit staff over Russia and observers in the Aegean Sea, and several machines changed hands during a single campaign. The modeler can therefore choose between the classic two-color upper camouflage and a light desert finish.
For every option the list also gives the shade combinations according to the German aviation standard, so the paintwork can be planned out before the decals go on. On the tropical and the captured version it pays to allow for the heavy weathering that desert service worked on fabric covering within a few weeks.
