Omask 1:48 Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB Car Door: the O-max set

The O-max set is the most complete form of masking accessory from the Czech manufacturer Omask. It is neither a kit nor any part of a model: it is a painting accessory that combines two things in one package: masking templates for the canopy glazing and for other areas that call for a precise separation of colors, and foam plugs made of EVA material shaped to the landing gear bays. The set is cut for the Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB kits in 1:48 scale from the manufacturers Hasegawa and Hobby 2000 (Hobby 2000 uses the Hasegawa mold, which is why both fit). The designation Car Door refers to the early version of the Typhoon with automobile-style cockpit doors and a framed canopy: it has to be distinguished from the later version with the bubble canopy, for which the cuts are different.

Use

• Stick the templates onto clean, degreased glazing, press the edge down and spray the frames with the interior color, then with the topcoat.
• Press the foam plugs into the landing gear bays just before you spray the underside; they protect the detail of the bay against paint and against overspray.
• The plugs can be taken out and put back repeatedly and also come in useful during later weathering and varnishing.
• Take the masks off while the paint is freshly dry, not after it has cured fully; the edge is cleaner then.
• It saves time over cutting tape by hand and gives a sharp, repeatable transition between colors.
