A set of masks for the model of the MiG-17F fighter in 1:48 scale, prepared for the Kinetic kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-17F was the most widespread version of the Soviet jet fighter that followed on from the MiG-15 and rid it of its vices at high speeds. It served in dozens of countries and in many of them stayed in service for decades. A model of the MiG-17 stands or falls with the cleanliness of its finish: a large part of these machines flew in natural metal, where every imperfect edge shows, and the frame of the canopy is very much on view on the short fuselage.
The masks in 1:48 scale are prepared for the MiG-17F kit from Kinetic. They are cut to shape, so there is no cutting out of tape and the edge between the paint and the covered area comes out sharp along its whole length. Which parts of the model the set covers is stated in the manufacturer's instructions; use them to plan what to spray first and what later.
First wash and degrease the area under the mask, otherwise the mask will not hold. Lift the pieces off the sheet with the tip of a knife or with tweezers and press them down all round, especially on curves. Spraying the canopy frames first in the interior shade and only then in the outer color works well. Remove the mask shortly after the coat has dried; into fully cured paint the edge cuts in and tears when the mask is lifted. On a finish imitating natural metal work especially carefully, because repairs to polished shades always show.
The mask set is supplied on its own. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
