A turned metal pitot tube for models of the Su-27 and Su-30 in 1:48 scale from the Polish brand MASTER. It replaces the fragile plastic part on the nose with one that is straight and has a real bore.

This is not a kit of an aircraft but a small metal accessory. The turned pitot tube is intended to replace the plastic part on the nose of Su-27 and Su-30 models in 1:48 scale. Unlike the plastic molding, the metal tube has a genuinely open bore and is concentric and straight, so once it is in place it creates no kink and no asymmetry at the tip of the nose.
The pitot tube is a dynamic pressure sensor and on the Flanker it sits at the most exposed spot on the whole model. In such a thin section injection-molded plastic is often slightly bowed straight out of the mold, it is hard to sand true once it has been cut from the sprue, and it snaps easily when the finished model is handled. The metal part keeps its shape, survives being touched during masking and carrying, and is more likely to take a knock than to break.
Cut the plastic part off as close to the fuselage as possible and true the surface with a file. Drill a hole in the tip matching the diameter of the pin on the new tube, try it dry and only then bond it with super glue or with a slow-setting epoxy, which gives you time to line the axis up. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and use a primer intended for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface. A metal look is handled nicely with bluing or light oxidation instead of an opaque paint. Fit the tube right at the end of the build, after the clear coat and the decals.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
