A marking sheet, Xtradecal 1:48 for the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb and Mk.Vc. Decals for the most numerously built wartime version of the Spitfire.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mk.V version was the most numerously built variant of the Supermarine Spitfire, and the British firm Xtradecal has devoted a separate decal sheet in 1:48 scale to it. The set covers two wing configurations of the same aircraft and assumes a kit that the modeler obtains separately.
The Mk.V came about as a quick answer to the German Bf 109F: the airframe of the older version received a more powerful Merlin of the 45 series. The letter after the designation, however, denotes the wing rather than the engine. The b configuration carried two 20 mm Hispano cannon and four machine guns, while the universal c wing allowed either four cannon or two cannon with machine guns to be fitted, and a bomb could be carried under it as well. Many machines flew with clipped wingtips for better handling at low level and with a bulky sand filter under the nose. Spitfire Mk.Vs defended Malta, covered the landings in North Africa and bore the weight of the fighting over the Channel in the years 1941 to 1943.
The sand filter, the clipped wings and the armament differ from machine to machine, so decide in advance which form you are building. Apply the markings only over a cured gloss varnish; a softening solution will help them wrap around the exhausts and the panel seams. Finally secure everything with a matte overcoat.
