Seat belts are among the details that decide the final impression of an open cockpit. The belts of German Second World War fighters had an unmistakable fabric weave and a characteristic shape of hardware, and on a model they cannot be replaced by simply painting the seat. The set is prepared for fighter cockpits in general rather than for one single type, so it will serve on a whole range of German fighter aircraft.
The package holds three-dimensional printed belts on a backing decal sheet, completed with metal buckles. The combination of a thin printed belt and metal hardware gives the result a depth and a sheen that a flat decal cannot offer. The set is universal and suits kits from various manufacturers, because the belt conforms to the shape of the particular seat only during application.
The belts are released from the backing paper by briefly dipping the sheet in lukewarm water, and no decal softener is used with them, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Cut them out with a sharp blade, dip the sheet briefly in lukewarm water and slide the belt onto the seat with tweezers, where the gloss coat of the surface holds it. The material can be shaped slightly, so a belt can hang freely over the edge of the seat or lie on the cockpit floor. Work on a degreased surface and fit the belts only after the cockpit painting is finished.
The set suits modelers who are building German fighters with an open cockpit or a slid-back canopy, and everyone who wants to finish a cockpit without the laborious folding of photo-etched parts. The package contains only the belts with metal buckles. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
