A set of figures of Austrian infantry of the 12th century in 1:72 scale, in a form corresponding to the later part of that age.
Responsibility details are not available.
The figures capture the foot warriors of the Austrian lands of the 12th century, that is of the time when a frontier march became a duchy and when the center of gravity of fighting lay in the hands of the cavalry. Even so, the infantry made up the more numerous part of an army: it held the camp, occupied fortified places and protected the flanks of a formation in the field.
The basic equipment of a foot soldier was a spear, a shield and a close-quarters weapon; mail armor belonged rather to the wealthier warriors, while the others relied on a quilted garment and a helmet. The set captures the form of the later part of the century.
To dioramas with a castle, a camp or a siege, to tabletop battles in 1:72 scale and as an accessory to buildings of the period. In this scale a fairly numerous formation can be built on a small area without the scene outgrowing a display case.
Wash and degrease the figures before painting and apply a base coat, as paint otherwise does not hold on small surfaces. A base shade, darker accenting of the folds and light drybrushing of the edges prove themselves. Mail armor suits a metallic shade darkened toward gray.
The shields are the only large surfaces on a figure and they decide the overall impression; with different colors and simple devices you will give a formation variety. The particular procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions. In 1:72 scale it also pays not to overdo the number of shades, as a small figure otherwise coarsens to the eye.
Paints, glue and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
