The third part of the anniversary series Xtradecal 1:72 D-Day, the Eighth and Ninth Air Forces of the USA brings markings for models of American aircraft from June 1944.
Responsibility details are not available.
A decal sheet in 1:72 scale issued for the seventieth anniversary of the landings. According to its name this third part is devoted to the machines of the Eighth and Ninth Air Forces of the United States from June 1944. The package contains markings for plastic models, not the aircraft itself.
The Eighth Air Force operated from bases in southern England and bore the main weight of the daylight strategic bombing of Germany; its four-engined formations were escorted by long-range fighters. The Ninth, by contrast, was a tactical force: fighter-bombers, twin-engined medium bombers and transports with paratroops supported the ground advance directly. In the first days of June both formations flew over the Normandy beachheads, and their aircraft carried conspicuous identification stripes for that operation.
Which particular machines and units the sheet carries is given in the instructions enclosed with it. A kit and paints are not enclosed.
