The Xtradecal 1:72 decal set for the Mosquito B.Mk.XVI is a collection sheet for models of the bomber version of this famous wooden twin-engine aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
Collection sheets from Xtradecal tend to be more comprehensive than an ordinary release, and this one is devoted to a single bomber version of the Mosquito. A modeler thus gets material concentrated on one particular form rather than spread across the whole history of the type.
De Havilland built the Mosquito from plywood and balsa at a time when the rest of the world had gone over to duralumin semi-monocoques. The B.Mk.XVI version is among the peaks of the development of the bomber branch. It received a pressurized cabin, which let the crew operate at altitudes to which night fighters could climb only with difficulty, and Rolls-Royce Merlin engines with a two-stage supercharger. The bulged lower part of the bomb bay could be adapted for a heavy bomb, so this small wooden aircraft carried a load normally credited to four-engine machines.
Once the markings are dry, seal the model with matte varnish so that the glossy intermediate layer disappears and the surface takes on a uniform sheen. Varnish in thin coats and let each one air out, because a heavy spray all at once can wrinkle the film. Pick out the engraving across a decal only once the varnish is dry.
It is sold as a printed sheet, not as a plastic model.
