A set of decals for models of the earliest form of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 in 1:72 scale. The name gives five camouflage schemes, so the sheet covers more than one built model. It is neither a kit nor add-on parts but the markings that are applied to a finished and painted model.
The designation Bf 109A is used in the literature for the very first production and pre-production machines of this design, which came about before the widespread Berta and Dora versions. They were light single-seat fighters with a Jumo 210 V12 engine, a two-blade propeller and weak machine-gun armament. It was exactly these aircraft that went through combat deployment in Spain, where they proved the concept of a modern monoplane with an enclosed cockpit, a cantilever all-metal wing and retractable landing gear. Combat experience fed straight into the further versions, so the early machines carried a number of individual modifications and markings that were no longer repeated in later series production. For a modeler it is an attractive subject exactly because of the variety of the finishes.
First even the base out with a gloss varnish. Trim the individual markings close to the artwork, soak them in warm water and slide them into place with a brush. Blot the excess water away and squeeze out any air under the film. A softener helps to press a decal against the engraved lines. Varnishing at the end evens out the sheen of the whole model.
