An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Italeri. The model captures the famous American DUKW amphibious truck of the Second World War; the box carries the anniversary marking for the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings and contains decals for four variants and a color painting guide. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The DUKW was derived from the ordinary GMC CCKW 6x6 truck, to which a welded watertight hull was added to turn it into an amphibious vehicle. It was powered by a six-cylinder engine driving all six wheels; in the water it carried a load of about 2.4 tons or up to roughly 25 soldiers. It served to move supplies briskly from ships straight onto the beaches. The Americans and their allies used it in many landings, including D-Day in Normandy (Utah and Omaha beaches) and the operations at Salerno and Anzio and in the Pacific.
In the small 1:72 scale glue the parts precisely and with a light touch, ideally with liquid cement for plastic. Apply primer and airbrush the basic Olive Drab shade. Bring out the recesses and the rivet detail with a dark wash and the edges with dry-brushing. Dust the lower hull and the fenders with dust and mud pigments; an amphibious vehicle is a rewarding subject for a beach diorama.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
