Focke-Achgelis Fa 225 1:72 from AMP is a plastic kit of the experimental German rotor glider with a lifting rotor instead of a fixed wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit captures the unusual German experimental rotor glider Focke-Achgelis Fa 225, on which lift was provided by a freely autorotating lifting rotor instead of a fixed wing. The package is on the richer side and contains a photo-etched part, decals and a masking stencil. The finished model is about 156 mm long. The kit will please collectors of aircraft and of rotary-wing curiosities.
The Fa 225 came about in 1942 by joining the fuselage of a glider with a lifting rotor derived from Focke-Achgelis helicopter technology. The aim was to shorten the landing run of an unpowered transport glider. A single prototype was built; although it flew successfully, it brought no advantage over an ordinary glider, and so the project remained at the experimental stage. It is one of the technically remarkable but dead-end lines of development in rotary-wing aircraft.
Separate the small parts and the photo-etched pieces carefully; glue the photo-etched parts with super glue and the plastic with liquid modeling cement. Apply a primer before painting; the masking stencil supplied makes crisp transitions easier. Paint the rotor blades separately and fit them at the end. For a faithful look, flat period shades suit, and you can bring the details out with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
