A kit of the British experimental jet aircraft Gloster E28/39 in 1:72 scale from Clear Prop Models. A small model of an aviation milestone.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Gloster E28/39 was built as a flying testbed for jet propulsion and, in May 1941, became the first British aircraft to fly without a propeller. It carried no armament and has no combat history — its significance lies elsewhere. Its rounded fuselage with a nose air intake, single-seat cockpit, and nose landing gear foreshadowed the shape of the jet fighters that arrived a few years later.
An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Clear Prop Models. The parts are arranged on sprues, with a clear canopy part and a decal sheet included. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; get paints and glue separately. With such a small model, it is worth reading through the whole instruction sheet in advance and thinking through everything that needs to be finished before the fuselage is closed up.
The finished model is genuinely tiny, so plan on using tweezers and a sharp blade when cutting parts from the sprues. Add nose weight before gluing the fuselage halves together, since the aircraft rests on its nose landing gear. Fill and sand the fuselage seams carefully — on a small model, every scratch stands out. Mask the cockpit before spraying, and apply the paint in thin coats so it does not fill in the engraved detail.
The set suits collectors of prototypes and experimental aircraft, and anyone assembling a 1:72 scale development lineage of jet aviation from its earliest attempts onward. Ordinary modeling tools are enough, though tweezers and a magnifier help with the small parts. Paints, glue, filler, and accessory sets are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
