Injection-molded plastic kit of an ancient Greek trireme - a war galley with three banks of oars - in 1:72 scale from Zvezda. The model captures the slender hull with the ram at the bow, the mast with its square sail and the long banks of oars; the box contains injection-molded sprues, cord for the rigging and decals. Thanks to the large scale the assembled model is respectably long, around 49 cm.
The trireme was the main warship of the Mediterranean in the time of the Greco-Persian Wars in the 5th and 4th centuries BC. It was driven by three banks of rowers arranged one above the other, and in battle it relied on a bronze-sheathed ram with which it holed the hulls of enemy ships. It used the sail on its simple mast only for passage in a favorable wind; before battle the mast was lowered. Triremes decided battles such as Salamis.
Assemble the hull and clean it up, and glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic. The banks of oars will call for the most patience - seat them symmetrically and at the same angle. Fit the mast and the yard with the sail square, and tension the rigging step by step. Tone the wood in shades of brown and render the ram and the fittings with metallic paints. Set the finished model on a stand.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
