The set brings replacement landing gear wheels for models of the Junkers Ju 88S and the Ju 188 in 1:72 scale. A wheel is one of the few places on a model where the shape of the tread and the transition from the tire into the rim can be seen even in a small scale, so replacing them with separately made parts is among the upgrades with the best ratio of effort to result.
The Junkers Ju 88 was a twin-engine aircraft that served in bomber, reconnaissance and night fighter versions during the Second World War. The Ju 88S version was a fast bomber conversion with a smoothed forward fuselage. The Ju 188 derived from it but received a longer wing and a newly shaped nose and tail. Both types have their main landing gear retracting into the engine nacelles, so the wheels stay hidden most of the time and are all the more visible on a model on the ground.
The parts are not polystyrene, so they are glued with cyanoacrylate glue. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder down carefully, so as not to spoil the shape of the tire. Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent and degrease them before painting, otherwise the paint holds badly. Dry-fit the seating on the landing gear leg and adjust the diameter of the pin as needed. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the particular procedure.
The set is intended for builders of German aircraft in 1:72 scale who want to sharpen the landing gear. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
