MARS 1:72 MEDIEVAL ARKBALISTA is four medieval ballistas with sixteen crew figures.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set in 1:72 scale from MARS Model. The box holds four shooting engines and sixteen crew figures in four poses, forty-four parts in all. This is a mechanical missile weapon working on the principle of a great crossbow, which medieval armies used in defense and in siege alike. The parts come unpainted and have to be assembled.
A great crossbow mounted on a bed was among the most widespread shooting engines of the Middle Ages. Unlike the torsion weapons of antiquity it used the spring of the bow and was drawn with a windlass or a lever. It shot a heavy bolt that could pierce shield and armor alike, and it suited accurate shooting at individual targets, at defenders in the battlements for example. Alongside it, heavy stone-throwing engines were used as well.
Line the parts up dry, above all the seating of the bow in the bed, or the engine will not stand straight once glued. Paint the wood with an ocher base and a brown glaze along the grain, and darken the metal parts. You can replace the bowstring with a thin thread, which looks better than the plastic part. Set the crew out according to the logic of the work: drawing, laying the bolt and aiming.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
