A diorama accessory, not a model of an aircraft. The set contains 3D-printed maintenance (service) platforms for the engines of the PBY Catalina flying boat and a set of ground crew figures, with which you can create a lively engine maintenance scene. It is designed to complement Catalina kits in 1:72 scale from Academy, Revell and Wolfpack. The 3D printing gives fine detail both to the structure of the platforms and to the figures.

Use and fitting

• An accessory for PBY Catalina kits in 1:72 scale (Academy, Revell, Wolfpack).
• Wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent to take off any uncured print resin residue.
• Cut off the print supports with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw; do not snap the thin parts of the platforms.
• Sand the marks left by the supports gently, always with respiratory protection.
• Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate); cement for plastic does not hold on resin.

Painting tips

Spray the parts with primer and only then with paint. Build the metal platforms up from a darker base, bring out the edges with drybrushing and suggest rust with pigments. Give the figures time on the faces and the work overalls, because it is the crew that brings the scene to life and gives the model both scale and a story. Small tools and oil stains will complete the atmosphere of maintenance.

For makers of dioramas and vignettes with the Catalina flying boat who want to create a realistic service scene around an exposed engine. Working with 3D-printed resin and small figures assumes a more experienced hand.

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package. Use a respirator and ventilate when sanding resin.
