An injection-molded plastic kit of the RA-5C carrier-based reconnaissance aircraft in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The model captures the characteristic slender fuselage with its dorsal spine and the large trapezoidal wing. The box holds clear parts and a decal sheet with several marking options for US Navy reconnaissance squadrons.
The Vigilante was designed as a carrier-based strike aircraft, but the photo-reconnaissance RA-5C became the most widely used version. The two-seat machine with two turbojet engines was among the fastest and largest aircraft ever to operate from the decks of aircraft carriers. It carried complex reconnaissance avionics and camera equipment, and during the Vietnam War it served as the eyes of the US Navy's strike groups.
Glue the parts with liquid cement for plastic and keep the long fuselage supported while it dries so that it does not warp. Apply a primer before painting; the typical finish combines a light gray underside with white surfaces. Finish the cockpit before you close the fuselage up, mask the glazing and bring out the panel lines with a fine wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
