1:72 Thunderchief, a standing airman in the type 2 position is a separate figure of a man in flying clothing. Intended for models of the D, F and G versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
While the first variant of the stance suits a figure standing on its own, this one is built outright for a pair. The impression of two airmen in conversation beside a parked machine arises without your having to reach for any modification of the part. The set belongs with models of Thunderchiefs in the D, F and G versions.
The crews of this type flew mainly strike tasks at low altitude, which placed exceptional demands on navigation and on physical endurance. The aircraft had an enormous range in its category and lifted a load comparable with the bombers of the previous generation. After the end of its combat career some of the machines were taken over by the reserve components and served out until the 1980s. It is precisely this dimension of everyday service that a pair of airmen talking beside a machine captures far better than the most carefully shaded camouflage.
When you build two airmen side by side, avoid completely identical shades of clothing. It is enough to move one tone a shade lighter or to add a different color of gloves and the scene comes alive at once. By turning the head and twisting the whole figure slightly toward the other, you also create the impression that they really are talking together. Choose a base darker than the figures, so that they stand out against it.
The figure goes into a scene with a model you have already built.
