This kit from T-Model represents the late form of the armored Humvee, that is a vehicle fitted with a kit of added door armor and with a protected gunner's station on the roof. The 1:72 scale makes it a rewarding companion to aircraft and vehicles of the same ratio.
Improvised explosive devices and fire from the flanks in the Iraq operation proved that factory protection of the doors was not enough. The answer was a kit of added armored doors, which units received under field conditions from roughly 2006 on. Alongside it came a turret protecting the gunner from every side, because in an open ring mount he was the most exposed of all. The vehicle gained a great deal of weight by this, but the crew won protection that the original design had never allowed for.
The vehicle has a broken-up surface and a great many separate parts, so divide the build into subassemblies: chassis, body and gunner's station. Paint each one separately and join them only at the end, or you will not reach the awkward places. For color a sand desert scheme suggests itself; the added armor plates tended to be worn on the edges, so careful chipping with a dark shade and a thin brush pays off.
The model is sold unassembled and without a finish. The chemicals for building have to be obtained separately.
