An injection-molded plastic kit of the Boeing B-17E Flying Fortress heavy bomber in 1:72 scale from Academy. The package contains parts in gray plastic, clear parts for the glazing, a detailed flight deck and a decal sheet with markings of aircraft used in the Pacific. The model is built unglued and unpainted.
The B-17E was a watershed version of the Flying Fortress. Compared with the earlier machines it received a lengthened rear fuselage, a markedly larger vertical tail and fully enclosed defensive positions including the tail gun position and powered turrets. It was used at the beginning of the United States' part in the Second World War, among other places in the Pacific theater.
First finish and paint the interior of the cockpit and the fuselage, and only then glue the halves together. Mask the extensive glazing before spraying. A natural metal finish shows nicely once metallic shades are applied over a smooth varnished base; accentuate a matte olive scheme with a fine wash in the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
