An acrylic filter in a shade named after basalt. It serves to tone and even out painted areas gently without losing the original shade underneath.
Responsibility details are not available.
A filter is a very thinly diluted paint applied over a dry base coat. It does not cover it, it only lets it show through and shifts the overall tone: it evens out areas sprayed in several passes, damps down a shade that is too fresh and gives the surface a depth that a uniform color straight from the bottle does not have. The shade of this filter is named after basalt, so it leans toward gray. It suits everywhere the surface should be cooler and more weathered: gray camouflage, concrete and asphalt in a diorama, the metal surfaces of machines and dark running gear areas.
A filter and a glaze for bringing out engraving are not the same thing and one does not replace the other. A glaze is drawn into recesses and pulls shadows out of them, whereas a filter should act evenly over the whole area and should not collect in the grooves. If you want both, do it step by step and always let the previous step dry. Restraint pays off: two light passes can always be followed by another, while one that is too heavy is hard to remove.
The filter is supplied. The model, paints, thinner and brushes are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
