The first part of a range designed for application without thinning. Six matte tones hold two related families: three sands from desert through yellow to aircraft sand, and three greens from Japanese through dark olive to reseda green of the RAL standard.

The pairing of a green and a sandy color is the most widespread military finish combination there is. It turns up on German machines in North Africa, on Japanese aircraft over the Pacific, on postwar equipment in central Europe and on vehicles that never went anywhere and stood on a training ground. That is exactly why it makes sense to have both families graded side by side and not to mix them from scratch every time.
The sandy side opens with the desert shade, that is the lightest and grayest tone, intended for faded surfaces. A richer sand yellow with a warmer cast follows, and the row closes with the aircraft sand color of the German RLM 79 specification, which was carried by machines operating over the Mediterranean and over North Africa.
The green half goes another way. It begins with the shade of the Japanese aircraft industry, which is markedly warmer than the European greens and pulls toward brown. The second is a dark olive green usable on ground equipment and on the undersides of wings. A reseda green of the RAL 6011 standard closes the six, that is a muted tone with a gray cast of the kind that appears on postwar kit and equipment.
All the shades are matte and ready for immediate use. They take both brush and airbrush application and after drying they hold firmly enough to accept a further coat and weathering as well. To grade a single surface, the lighter tone of the same family can be mixed straight into the darker one, because both groups are mutually miscible.
