A resin fairing for the installation of the GSh-6-23 cannon on a MiG-31 model in 1:48 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. On the real machine the weapon is hidden under an aerodynamic fairing at the root of the right side of the fuselage, and in a plastic kit that place tends to be handled with no more than a suggested shape. Printing in resin allows the edges of the fairing and the opening for the barrels to be rendered exactly. It is not an aircraft model but a replacement part.
The GSh-6-23 is a six-barrel 23 mm rotary cannon, that is a weapon with a revolving cluster of barrels which can empty its magazine in a few short bursts. On the MiG-31 it is installed under a fairing on the side of the lower fuselage and it was rarely used in service, because the main weapons of an interceptor were long-range guided missiles. The cover of the weapon is therefore closed in most photographs.
Release the part from the supports with a scalpel and level the mating face on abrasive paper on glass, so that the fairing follows the outline of the fuselage without a step. Cut the original plastic shape off the kit and smooth the place. Wash the resin in lukewarm soapy water before painting. The area around the opening tends to be sooted, so a fine dark touch applied very thinly suits it.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
