This is a paint from a range prepared for work with a dry brush, in a light rust shade. It is used when aging a model, when you need to emphasize edges, rivets and raised detail and to suggest the places where corrosion pushes through a worn surface. The light rust shade belongs on the margins of older rusty areas and on freshly scraped spots where the rust has not yet had time to darken.
The procedure is simple but calls for discipline. Pick up a minute amount of paint on a flat brush and wipe it on a paper towel almost dry. Only then run it over the surface of the model with light strokes; the paint will catch only on the raised areas. Work in layers and rather apply less, because an excess is far harder to remove than another stroke is to add. Hold the brush almost flat and draw it in one direction so that the highlight looks natural. The dry brush gives the best result on a matte surface; on gloss varnish the paint catches unevenly.
Close the jar immediately after taking paint out, as the thicker paints intended for the dry brush set quickly in the air. Clean the brush right after work with the thinner intended for this range, following the manufacturer's instructions; dried paint at the ferrule will twist the bristles beyond repair. An older, soft and splayed brush suits this technique, and the work is needlessly hard on a good new one.
The paint suits builders of vehicles and dioramas who want to give a model some wear. The model, the brushes and the thinner are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
