Elves are drawn in tabletop worlds as a people of the forest and of long life, and their coloring is meant to say so before a player reads a single line of the rules. That is why they stay on the cool side of the spectrum: leaf and jade green on clothing and cloaks, an icy cast to metal and silk, skin pale rather than tanned. The warm rusty tones that suit orcs or dwarves would turn the whole impression upside down.
The set holds five marker pens. Leaf Green and Jade Green form a pair that makes it possible to tell the under layer of clothing from the outer one without mixing. Power Blue adds a cool accent on shields, runes and the hem of a cloak. Human Flesh covers the face and the hands, and White Shadow serves as a highlight that does not break up the color as harshly as pure white.
The marker carries ready acrylic paint, so there is no palette, no thinning and no washing of brushes. The pigment needs to be loosened by shaking before first use, and the tip needs to be filled with a few presses onto a piece of paper. It covers in two light passes rather than one heavy one, otherwise the paint drowns the relief. The transition between the two greens can be made by applying the lighter one onto the under layer while it is still wet and blending it with a damp brush.
Those who will get the most out of it are players who need a whole unit on the table quickly, and beginners who are put off by preparing paints. An experienced painter will fill the areas with the markers and finish the fine transitions with a brush.
