A resin R-3S air-to-air guided missile in 1:72 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. The resin print manages the thin control fins as well as the small plates at the nose, which a plastic mold cannot handle in a small scale. It is not an aircraft model but a separate store to be hung under the wing of a finished model.
The R-3S is the heat-seeking version of the Soviet close-combat missile that became the standard armament of the MiG-21 and spread across the whole Eastern Bloc. The infrared seeker finds the target by the heat signature of its engines, so after launch the missile is on its own. With the first generations of such seekers that meant they had to be launched from behind, because from the front the target did not expose its engines.
Release the missile body from the supports on a work mat; the plates at the front are fragile. Sand the marks down with fine paper and wet sand, with respiratory protection. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting. The cover of the seeker head is done in a polished metallic paint or a clear coat. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
