A resin R-98MT air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. The set is made by 3D printing in resin, so the seeker head, the lifting surfaces and the control fins carry finer detail than an ordinary plastic part from a kit. It is not an aircraft model but a separate piece of armament to hang under the wing of a finished model.
The R-98M is the upgraded version of a Soviet medium-range missile from a family that originated back in the 1950s and gradually reached several generations of interceptors. The letters MT stand for the upgraded variant with an infrared homing head, which looks for the target by itself from the heat of the engines and needs no support from the aircraft's radar after launch. It was standard practice to carry both versions at once: one missile with heat guidance and the other with radar.
Cut the supports off with a scalpel right at the part; never break them off, as resin cracks in an unexpected place. Sand the marks left by the supports with fine paper, wet and with respiratory protection. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, otherwise paint holds badly on the smooth print. The thin tip of the seeker head is the most vulnerable spot, so put the missile down on a soft surface.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
