Kh-59M guided missile in 1:32 scale from Temp Models

The set brings a 3D printed replica of the Kh-59M guided missile, in transliteration also written X-59 M, in 1:32 scale from Temp Models. It is not a model of an aircraft but underwing armament with which you complete a finished build. The printed rendition gives the crisper edges of the stabilizing surfaces and finer surface detail than injection-molded plastic offers, and it does without a seam line across the whole body.

The real subject

The Kh-59M is a Soviet and Russian long-range air-to-ground missile. It differs from the shorter missiles in that after launch it continues to the target on a jet engine of its own slung under the body, so it flies for a long time and low. The guidance is television with the picture transmitted back to the operator, who corrects the missile. The elongated body with the engine nacelle is unmistakable on a replica in 1:32.

Building and painting tips

The parts are printed from resin and are held only by thin supports. Cut them off with a sharp scalpel as close to the part as possible, sand the marks down with fine sandpaper and protect your airways while sanding. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Paint holds longer on a smooth print if you lay a thin coat of primer under it. Paint the underwing weapons separately and glue them onto the model only after the landing gear and the cockpit are finished.
