A resin R-40R air-to-air guided missile in 1:72 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. The resin print manages the long body and the large lifting surfaces in one piece. It is not an aircraft model but a separate store to be hung under the wing of a finished model.
The R-40 is a heavy Soviet air-to-air missile developed for the interceptors of the MiG-25 family. For its day it was an exceptionally large weapon, because it had to hit a target flying high and very fast. The letter R stands for semi-active radar homing, so the missile follows the reflection of the signal from the parent aircraft's onboard radar. The standard armament was a pair, one radar-guided missile and one heat-seeking.
Release the long missile body from the supports on a flat work mat so that it does not bow. Sand the marks down with fine paper and wet sand, with respiratory protection. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Check the large lifting surfaces against the light to see whether they are twisted, and straighten them under mild heat if need be.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
