A resin R-40RD air-to-air guided missile in 1:72 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. The letter D in the designation points to the later, improved version of this heavy missile. The resin print manages the long body and the large lifting surfaces in one piece. It is not an aircraft model but a separate store.
The R-40 family ranked among the heaviest air-to-air missiles of its day and was carried by interceptors meant to hit targets flying high and fast. The later versions received an improved seeker and motor, so they could also cope with targets flying low over the terrain, where ground returns troubled the older missiles. For a modeler the difference between the versions is above all a question of matching them correctly to the period and to the aircraft.
Release the long missile body from the supports on a flat work mat so that it does not bow. Sand the marks down with fine paper and wet sand, with respiratory protection. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Check the large lifting surfaces against the light and straighten them under mild heat if need be. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
