A dark forest green matching the US Federal Standard for colors. Part of the three-tone European camouflage of combat aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
The abbreviation FS refers to the Federal Standard with which the American armed forces describe paint shades. The number in it does not give the name of a color but its exact position in the color chart. FS 34092 belongs to the dark forest green of the European camouflage scheme of machines of the 1970s and 1980s, worn by attack aircraft, fighters and transport machines in a three-tone pattern.
A sharp transition between fields calls for masking, while a soft one is sprayed freehand from close up. On this scheme the boundaries were hard on the real machines, so masking tape packed with string, or a piece of paper held just above the surface, pays off. Before you lay a mask on, let the previous paint mature, otherwise the adhesive layer will pull it off along with the base.
In larger scales a uniform area looks unnaturally dark. Mix in a drop of yellow and spray over the centers of the panels, which creates the impression of a finish faded by service. Leave the rest of the green at full strength at the wing root and in places the sun reaches less. A thin wash run along the rivet lines will give the area depth without changing the shade.
